Day 1 of my vacation to the Adirondacks began in Shrewsbury, MA where I saw my sister Rachel for the first time in a year. We exchanged birthday gifts and hung out with my brother Joe, sister-in-law Jen and my niece MacKenzie. I brought Katama oysters from Martha’s Vineyard. At 1pm, I headed west to Lake George. I launched my kayak at 5:30pm from Bolton Landing, paddled beneath low nimbus clouds and drizzle Northeast to the point of First Peak toward the narrows and turned around in the calm waters between Turtle and Mohican islands (5-miles). The NW wind kicked up 3’ white capped waves quickly at times, but were no match for the P&H Capella. It’s dead out here except for the occasional adventurer with out of state plates. Goals for the next 1.5 weeks are to pack as many scenic lake paddles, flowering plants, and 4k peaks in as possible, read the rest of The Endless Shore, and spend less than $500 total.
